![]() The games automatic building mechanic (people and businesses automatically move in once you zone) makes the game move quickly and keep your interest for hours on end. ![]() I wracked my brain trying to figure out what was wrong before a simple fix put everything on track again- but for those few minutes I experienced that blend of genuine concern for this little city I was building, and only the great simulation games can make you care that much about a city that exists only in your mind. Or, take what happened to me (mixing up sewage with the potable water) and I looked up from planning a new neighborhood to discover that armageddon had befallen most of my citizens. But that is part of the game’s challenge and appeal: if you neglect one aspect of a thriving city then you will find your citizens sad and your businesses shuttering their windows with you scrambling to figure out what went wrong and fix it. After having played it for almost a week I still feel as though there are many rules I don’t quite understand. If a good structure such as a hospital or fire department is built in close proximity to homes, there is a positive reaction compared to a negative reaction when houses are. Admittedly “Cities: Skylines” takes a while to learn. The planning of zoning is similar as well as the response from the citizens of the city.
